Independent website – not a government service. We are not part of GOV.UK, the courts, the Insolvency Service or any council. For free, impartial debt advice, use MoneyHelper.

The short version

We are not a debt advice provider and we do not give debt advice. With your permission, we introduce you to an FCA-authorised debt advice firm that can discuss your situation and your options. We may receive a fee from that firm for the introduction. This does not affect the advice you receive or what you pay.

Who pays us

Our website is free to use. We’re funded by the debt advice firm we introduce people to. When you ask us to put you in touch with an adviser and give your consent, we pass your details to:

  • [Partner Debt Advice Firm] Ltd (FCA FRN: [Partner FRN]) – FCA-authorised debt advice firm. Its advisers can discuss all suitable options, including free options, and can refer you for a Debt Relief Order through an approved intermediary.

That firm may pay us a fee for each introduction. The fee doesn’t depend on which debt solution, if any, you choose.

What this means for you

  • You don’t pay us anything, and you’re not charged for being introduced.
  • The adviser must act in your best interests. FCA-authorised debt advice firms must give suitable advice based on your circumstances, and must tell you about free options, including that free debt advice is available.
  • You’re under no obligation to go ahead with anything the adviser suggests.
  • Debt solutions have their own costs. Debt Relief Orders are free. IVAs have fees. The adviser must explain any costs before you agree to anything.

How this affects what we write

It doesn’t. Our guides explain all the main options – including free ones like Breathing Space, Debt Relief Orders and free advice from charities – with their pros and cons. See our editorial policy.
