Cookie policy
The cookies and similar technologies How To Stop The Bailiffs uses, why we use them, and how to change your choices.
Last updated: 20 October 2026
Cookies are small files saved on your device when you visit a website. Similar technologies, such as browser “local storage”, work in a similar way. This policy explains what we use and why.
Strictly necessary
These are needed for the site to work, and don’t need your consent.
| Name | Type | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| htstb-cookie-consent | Local storage | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies | Until you clear it |
| htstb-attr | Session storage | Remembers which page or campaign you arrived from, so we can include it with your enquiry if you send one | Until you close your browser |
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use our website – for example, which guides are most read and where people leave the enquiry form. This helps us improve the site. We don’t use this data to identify you.
The Google Analytics code is on every page, but it uses Google’s “consent mode”: it doesn’t set or read any cookies unless you click “Accept analytics cookies”. Until you choose, or if you reject, Google may still receive limited information without cookies, such as the page you viewed, the time, your browser and device type and your approximate location. Without cookies, this can’t be used to recognise you on later visits.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes users | 2 years | |
| _ga_DWV8W486QR | Keeps track of session state | 2 years |
If you don’t accept, these cookies are not set. If you accept and later change your mind using “Cookie settings” at the bottom of any page, we stop using them and delete them.
Changing your choice
You can change your choice at any time using the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. You can also delete cookies through your browser settings.
